Taxonomy

The genus Enallagma are sometimes called American Bluets, since they are mostly restricted to North America. These medium-sized damselfies are frequent visitors to the yard, but they are often hard to identify from photographs.

Male bluets are usually blue and black, while the coloration of females is variable, they often are light brown. Bluets hang their wings down on the sides of their bodies, unlike vivid dancers (Argia vivida) who hold their wings above their bodies.
