Life On A Quarter Acre

First flowers opened today.

In southeast corner of front garden.

Dissected flower to determine floral characters.

First leaves coming out.

Fruits are single-seeded, covered with fine white hair, with sticky liquid droplets on sides.

The seeds are very sticky and easily moved by a slight breeze.

Length ~ 2 mm.

These are growing in an area that appeared to be bare ground in the late summer and early fall. But in recent weeks, these have popped up.

In front garden, next to driveway and sidewalk.

this is my best guess on the ID. I'm hoping for a confirmation on iNat.

The is the most active plant in the fall for pollinators.

In northeast corner of yard.

Cone 110 mm, needles 25 mm, scale 20 mm

Backyard, west side.

Fruit and seeds from plants in front garden (south side).

Seed, ~ 2mm.

We have many of these on the south side of the yard. Self-seeding.

I planted this a few years ago. First flower last year, and a few more this year. But the leaves are getting eaten by something.

I'm not yet sure of the species.
